Contracts and consumer law for celebrants in the post-COVID environment

Find out what your legal protections and rights are when weddings get cancelled and postponed and how you can respond properly

Description

Contracts and consumer law for celebrants in the post-COVID environment (2 hours)

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted the wedding industry in Australia, with postponements and cancellations rife due to government restrictions on weddings in place around the country. One of the outcomes of these cancellations and postponements has been that many celebrants have discovered their service agreements do not sufficiently protect them in such cases, resulting in heartache and difficulties for both celebrants and their couples.

Kathryn Adams from Hallett Law in South Australia has been working with the wedding industry since the beginning of the pandemic and has a built up a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies and nuances of wedding supplier contracts. Through a facilitated question and answer session, she will offer her general expertise and learnings from this time to participants; there will also be time for participants to ask questions of a general nature.

NB: This session is general in nature and is not a substitute for seeking individual and personal legal advice.
