Safe and inclusive celebrancy practice

Learn how to develop a safe and inclusive celebrancy practice that embraces and celebrates the diversity in our community

Description

Safe and inclusive celebrancy practice (4 hours)

As celebrants, we are lucky enough to encounter members of all communities in our work in both weddings and funerals. However, many celebrants have not had much, if any, professional development that is reflective of what our society actually looks like, or in practising their celebrancy in a safe and inclusive manner.

Language is evolving at a rapid rate, and many celebrants feel worried about causing offence by saying the wrong thing or using the wrong word. Celebrants are keen to ensure their celebrancy practice is inclusive of all communities, and they want to understand how to tailor their offerings to meet the needs of all communities.

This topic involves content experts providing comprehensive information on concepts and terminology associated with:

  • LGBTQIA+ identities (Nevo Zisin)
  • People with disability (Madeleine Little)
  • People of colour and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (Elsa Tuet-Rosenberg).

It provides an opportunity for celebrants to discuss ways of tailoring their services to all people (if necessary), different kinds of language to use in ceremonies (if necessary), and how to generally provide a safe and inclusive service to all.
